I wanted to challenge myself with the task of making a sunset in a black and white medium for this last page.  It turns out it’s possible when you use gradients and the right kind of rim-lighting.  But if I were to try this again today I would do a better job by upping the shadow contrast, adding atmospheric dithering, and drawing the tree and valley better.

 

Well, there it is.  I’m not proud of this short story, but I needed a break, and hopefully you readers got something out of it, even if it’s just a little background information for our characters.  Regular Culture Shock will commence on Friday with Tadashi in a CRAAAAAAZY situation.
