Neither of them is even looking at the laptop now, so Lane’s father could easily tamper with it, such as by shutting down the video feed or maybe something more complicated. The Scary Shiny Glasses in the last panel strongly hint that he has done something, but we’ll have to wait for the next comic to be certain.
Unless it’s somehow a trap, with the laptop only appearing to be running out. Far-fetched mayhap, but you got two geniuses there, so maybe it’s a ploy to lure him out?
