I’ve noticed a sharp uptick in traffic ever since I joined the Spider Forest comic collective. This is terrific. I just wanted to thank all you new readers for stopping by, and your kind words. I’ll do my best to keep this entertaining. I also want to thank all the “classic” readers who have stuck with me and kept me motivated for all this time.
Stuff to note about Sally: She’s totally okay with being attractive and flaunting it. Looking good had a positive effect on her income as a saloon waitress, which has made her a much more forward person.
If you gave us more Sally caboose shots, that gun would have been visible before this page, Hawk. :รพ
Also, oh no, Alec! Was his armour made with Kevlar? I forget.
@Macuelos: It was reinforced with Kevlar, yes. But normal bullet resistance does not cover stuff beyond the small Pistole range. A assault rifle will propably get through.
@page: Sally is right, after all it is a nice Caboose to look at. Granted there is only 3 other Female Characters (Brooke, Dana and the Witch).
I think an assault rifle will struggle with iron plating + kevlar. Kevlar alone indeed does not protect against assault rifles. Ceramic plating (what soldiers use) does, however. Kevlar is closer to a fabric, so it’s likely to have replaced (or been woven in with) the leather inside the armor. Also note that, since the armor itself is made of iron, bullets that hit it under an awkward angle can ricochet.
Another thing noteworthy is that at these close ranges Assault Rifles are hard to aim compared to handguns.
There are reasons soldiers have a tendency to carry both if they expect a chaotic melee to ensue.
Talking about carrying both, I like that the personnel of Slate Security Force carry handguns on their uniforms as well.
@Cristopher: What do you think about the caboose of the Slate Security Force member at the last panel?
Hello, new reader here! I binged through your archive while I was sick yesterday and I love this world and the characters you’ve built! I was just wondering- is there a set update schedule for Culture Shock?
Thank you for reading, and for the kind words! I update the comic on Monday and Friday. Sometimes I miss Friday, but I’ve been trying not to do that.
Awesome, thanks ๐
Interesting video on the affects of various firearms on a piece of medieval armor (helmet specifically). Hope that kevlar can catch the bullet after it loses some momentum https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ygaSMeTh-f0
Very interesting. I’m actually surprised at how thin the metal of the helmets is, I expected it to be much thicker.
As the metal is this thin, bullets don’t even ricochet off properly, but instead cause a huge dent if they hit the metal at a steep angle (especially visible when the .45s hit the Viking helmet). Ouch.
Luckily, Alec’s armor seems to be made of sterner stuff.
